Purple flowers in early May are not particularly showy, but certainly are unique. Dense pyramidal or round-topped head. Edible brownish black fruit taste similar to a banana. Good for moist areas. Can sucker to form groves in optimum growing conditions. NATIVE to mountainous regions of the southern US.
